Getting Ready Open Enrollment 2016

Your 2016 health insurance letters

By the end of October 2015, you should get 2 letters by mail or email. Together they explain your status and options for 2016 health insurance coverage.

Your Health Insurance Marketplace letter

1 letter will come from the Health Insurance Marketplace. It will explain the actions you’ll need to take to keep or change your insurance for 2016. Details include:

  • Any actions you must take to get a premium tax credit for 2016
  • How to update your application for 2016 to make sure you get the right premium tax credit for the year

Your insurance company letter

Another letter will come from your health insurance company. It will tell you about the status and costs of your plan for 2016. Details include:

  • Whether your 2015 plan is available in 2016
  • If not, whether the company is offering you a similar plan
  • Any changes to the plan for 2016
  • The 2016 premium, after any premium tax credit has been applied. The tax credit may be based on your 2015 information or may be updated based on other information the Marketplace has from other sources.
  • Whether you’ll be automatically re-enrolled in the plan if you don’t take action by December 15

TIP
Be sure to keep your Health Insurance Marketplace and insurance company letters in a safe place and have them handy when you enroll in 2016 health coverage.

Common questions

After October 31 contact the Marketplace Call Center. Before you call, log in to your Marketplace account and check the messages. The notice may be there.

Contact your insurance company, not the Marketplace. It should arrive by November 1.

If you haven't updated your application and confirmed your plan selection by December 15, you’ll get a letter from the Marketplace between December 16 and January 1. It will tell you that you’ve been automatically enrolled and explain how to update and change plans.
