If you won't be automatically re-enrolled

If the letter you get from your insurance company says you won’t be automatically re-enrolled for 2016, you can enroll in any plan available to you through the Health Insurance Marketplace.


2016 plans and prices will be available for preview the third week of October, 2015.

  • You must enroll by December 15, 2015 for your insurance start on January 1, 2016.
  • All 2015 Marketplace plans end on December 31, 2015. This is true no matter when you enrolled.
  • The deadline to enroll in a 2016 health insurance plan is January 31, 2016. If you enroll by January 15, your coverage starts February 1. If you enroll by January 31, it starts March 1.
    • If you miss the January 31 deadline you can’t enroll in health insurance for 2016 unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. If you don’t have health coverage for all or part of in 2016, you may have to pay a fee. Learn about fees and exemptions from the fee.

  • Your plan may no longer be offered, and the insurance company doesn’t have a similar plan to offer you.
  • Your insurance company may no longer be offering plans through the Marketplace.
